LGBTQ+ Nightlife & Community — National Resources Followed by Charlotte NC Highlights

Why We’re Leading with National Support

Wherever you are, it helps to have reliable LGBTQ+ resources you can count on—day or night. Below are trusted national hotlines and organizations to keep handy, followed by a Charlotte, NC roundup since that’s our home base. Note: the LGBTQ+ option within the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline ended in July 2025; we’ve listed strong, identity-affirming alternatives you can use right now.

National LGBTQ+ Resources (Save These)

- The Trevor Project (Youth 24/7) — 24/7 crisis counseling for LGBTQ+ young people via phone, text, or chat. Free and confidential. Great first stop for youth and those supporting them.

- Trans Lifeline (Peer Support) — Peer-run hotline by and for trans people in the U.S. and Canada; also offers Spanish language option. Not connected to law enforcement by default.

- SAGE LGBTQ+ Elder Hotline — Support for LGBTQ+ older adults and caregivers with trained responders and referrals.

- Lambda Legal Help Desk — General legal information and help-desk intake for discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, and HIV status.

- PFLAG (Families & Allies) — Peer-to-peer support, local chapters, and virtual groups for LGBTQ+ people, families, and allies.

- GLAAD (Digital Safety & Media Guides) — Guides for safer social media use and respectful language—useful when dealing with online harassment or media questions.

- Advocates for Trans Equality (Policy & Know-Your-Rights) — Merged org carrying forward decades of NCTE/TLDEF work—ally guides and policy resources for trans rights.

About 988’s LGBTQ+ Option

As of July 2025, the LGBTQ+–specific option within 988 was discontinued. You can still dial 988 for general crisis support, but for specialized, identity-affirming help, contact the services above (Trevor Project, Trans Lifeline, SAGE) directly.
